goal in the 53rd-minute helped the University of South
Carolina Aiken women's soccer team claim its first Peach Belt
Conference victory of the year as the Pacers bested Georgia
Southwestern 1-0 on Saturday evening at the "Pacer Pit."
The win came on "Kick Out Cancer" night for the Pacer women at
the "Pacer Pit." The special day featured t-shirts, koozies, pins,
lanyards and hats for sale with all proceeds going to breast cancer
research.
The Pacer women also donned special "Kick Out Cancer" uniforms
in the match.
The special "Kick Out Cancer" promotion was sponsored by the
Aiken Regional Medical Center and Prime Steakhouse. Campus Outreach
sold concessions during the match.
Rigon's (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) goal in the
53rd-minute punctuated an evening in which USC Aiken
dominated things statistically.
The Pacers owned a 16-7 shot advantage and a commanding 10-0
advantage in corner kick opportunities.
USC Aiken goalkeeper Alli Edens (Lexington,
S.C. /College of Charleston) saved three Georgia Southwestern
(3-9-0, 0-3-0 PBC) shots en route to picking up the clean sheet
between the pipes.
The shutout win over Georgia Southwestern also helped USC Aiken
(4-6-0, 1-4-0 PBC) snap a six-match losing streak.
USC Aiken will next travel to first-time opponent Valdosta State
for a 5 p.m. match on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
