Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – Brett Van Pelt
scored in the 56th-minute and the University of South
Carolina Aiken men's soccer team earned its first Peach Belt
Conference victory of the year with a 1-0 win over Georgia
Southwestern on Saturday at the "Pacer Pit."
The victory came in front of a good crowd in support of City
Soccer Night at the "Pacer Pit." Prior to the start of the match,
players and parents from teams in the area were encouraged to
donate used soccer gear to USC Aiken men's soccer Head Coach Ike
Ofoje's charity that benefits underprivileged children in
Africa.
USC Aiken (3-6-2, 1-2-1 PBC) has now secured a positive result
in three out of its last four outings as they have tied
Lenoir-Rhyne and UNC Pembroke in addition to besting Georgia
Southwestern over the course of the last two weeks.
Van Pelt (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken) claimed the only goal of
the match on a header into the back of the Hurricane net. He was
assisted by Scott
Newby (Leicestershire, United Kingdom/Wreake Valley).
USC Aiken owned a 13-10 shot advantage over Georgia Southwestern
(3-7-1, 0-3-0 PBC) in the match. The Pacers also held a slight 5-3
advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Robert Bolender (Kennesaw, Ga./Reinhardt) garnered the
clean sheet in the match between the pipes for USC Aiken. Bolender
made one save in the match.
USC Aiken will next travel to Peach Belt Conference rival
Francis Marion for a league match on Wednesday, Oct. 12 in
Florence, S.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
