Box Score PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team was unable to pick up its first Peach Belt Conference road win of the year in a narrow 2-0 loss to UNC Pembroke on Wednesday evening at the Varsity Grounds.
UNC Pembroke (8-2-1, 3-2-0 PBC) started the match off strongly by scoring in the second minute when Cassie DeQueiroz scored off an assist from Ashley Anctil.
The score would remain 1-0 at intermission, but in the 58th-minute Kayla Colon scored UNC Pembroke's final goal of the match off a double assist from Andrea Collen and Jasmine Jordan.
Jameela Bryant (Evans, Ga./Evans) and
Jenny Pineiro (Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) led the Pacers in the loss as both recorded three shots.
UNC Pembroke owned a 25-9 advantage in shots in the match. UNC Pembroke narrowly owned a 5-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
USC Aiken (3-6-0, 0-4-0 PBC) will next conclude its week with a home match against Georgia Southwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8.
The match is "Kick Out Cancer" night for the Pacer women at the "Pacer Pit."
The special day will feature t-shirts, koozies, pins, lanyards and hats for sale with all proceeds going to breast cancer research.
The Pacer women will also be wearing special "Kick Out Cancer" uniforms in the match (special thanks to Jim Hanna Sportswear).
The special "Kick Out Cancer" promotion is being sponsored by the Aiken Regional Medical Center and Prime Steakhouse, who is donating food for the special event.
Campus Outreach will be selling concessions during the match.
