DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. – Former University of South Carolina
Aiken golfer Scott Brown knew that he needed a great week of golf
at the Nationwide Tour Championship at the par 72 Ralston Creek
Course at the Daniel Island Club to earn his 2012 PGA Tour
card.
He accomplished that and more as he finished second at the
Nationwide Tour Championship with an 8-under score of 280
(75-68-67-70).
Brown is the first Pacer to earn a PGA Tour Card, adding more
history to a USC Aiken golf program that features three national
championships, eight Peach Belt Conference championships, numerous
successful professionals and a Hall of Fame coach.
Brown had entered the Nationwide Tour Championship
21st among the money leaders on the Nationwide Tour. The
top 25 on the money list after the Nationwide Tour Championship
earn 2012 PGA Tour cards.
Brown's second place finish at the Nationwide Tour
Championship allowed him to finish the year eighth on the final
tour money list with a total of $282,502.
Brown has spent the last two seasons playing on the Nationwide
Tour after originally earning a spot on the Nationwide Tour in 2010
in the PGA Tour's Qualifying School.
In 2009 playing on the eGolf Professional Tour, Brown finished
first on the money list at $142,362. He finished his year with two
wins.
A three-time All-America selection, Brown
(2002-06) was a part of all three of USC Aiken's
national championships (2004, 2005 and 2006).
A two-time Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, Brown is
currently second all-time in career scoring in Pacer history with a
73.06 scoring average in 113 rounds played. Brown owns two of the
top five single season scoring averages in school history,
including a school record 71.68 stroke average during his senior
season in the 2005-06 season.
Brown was given the Jack Nicklaus Award as the top golfer in
NCAA Division II in 2006. He ended his career with nine wins as an
individual, which is a Peach Belt Conference record.
