Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's
soccer team fell 2-1 to Clayton State in its regular season finale
on Saturday evening at the "Pacer Pit."
The match served as Senior Day for the Pacers. USC Aiken honored
its four seniors at halftime of Saturday's match.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first
stanza with the game knotted at 0-0 at intermission.
Clayton State (9-7, 4-4 PBC) was able to score the first goal of
the match just over four minutes into the second half. Janny Rivera
scored the goal on a penalty.
USC Aiken (3-9-4, 1-5-2 PBC) would even the match at 1-1 in the
59th-minute when Steven Campbell
(Augusta, Ga./Reinhardt) was able to score off a rebound from a Brett Van
Pelt (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken) shot. The goal was Campbell's
second of the year.
Clayton State scored the game-winner in the
76th-minute when Rivera scored off a free kick from 20
yards out.
Clayton State owned 22-9 shot advantage in the match. They also
owned a slight 7-5 corner kick advantage.
USC Aiken will next participate in the 2011 Peach Belt
Conference Men's Soccer Championship, which will begin on Tuesday,
Nov. 1 at the home field of the higher seeded team. More
information will be made available when the official bracket for
the 2011 PBC Men's Championship is released from the league
office.
