Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The 22nd-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team rolled to its eighth consecutive victory in a 68-38 Peach Belt Conference win over UNC Pembroke on Wednesday evening at the Convocation Center.
The Pacers' eighth straight win improves the nationally-ranked Pacers to a perfect 5-0 in PBC play in the 2010-11 season. They are now also a perfect 4-0 at home. The Pacers are now 13-2 overall.
With the loss, UNC Pembroke dropped to 5-7 on the year, including 1-3 in the PBC.
USC Aiken's current eight-game winning streak is the longest for the Pacers in a single season under ninth-year head coach Mike Brandt. The previous high of seven consecutive victories was achieved in the 2004-05 season (Nov. 19-Dec. 3).
USC Aiken has now held seven of their 15 foes in the current year to under 50 points in a game. USC Aiken is 7-0 in the seven contests.
The Pacers never trailed in the dominating win over UNC Pembroke. The Pacers were up 39-18 at halftime.
USC Aiken's largest lead of the game came with the Pacers clinging to a 35-point lead with 8:06 left in the second half.
The Pacers concluded Wednesday's league win shooting 45.1 percent (23-for-51). USC Aiken was a lethal 12-of-23 (52.2 percent) from beyond the arc.
In turn, USC Aiken's defense held the Braves to 29.5 percent (13-for-44) from the field in the game. UNC Pembroke was just 5-of-19 (26.3 percent) from three-point range.
Three Pacers finished in double figures with freshman Kayla Harris (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) leading the way with 15 points. Daniela Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) and Nakia Pinkney (Orangeburg, S.C./Orangeburg-Wilkinson) were not far behind with 14 points each.
Harris also had 10 rebounds in the game to finish with a double-double.
Only one Brave was able to secure double figures with DayDay Ray collecting 10 points in UNC Pembroke's losing effort.
USC Aiken will look to continue its winning ways next in a Peach Belt Conference home game with Armstrong Atlantic State at the Convocation Center on Saturday, Jan. 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
