Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The
University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team fought hard
through two overtime periods to earn a 0-0 tie against regionally
fifth-ranked Coker College.
The Pacers improve to 0-2-1
for the 2010 campaign, while the Cobras are now 2-0-1.
Scott Newby
(Leicestershire, UK/Wreake Valley) led USC Aiken's attack on the
goal taking four shots, two of which were on goal. In total, nine
Pacers took at least one shot in the game.
Eric Stiefield led Coker's
strikes with three shots, all of which were on goal.
Freshman Derrick Miranda
(Riverview, Fla./Eastbay) spent all 110 minutes between the pipes
for the Pacers making seven saves en route to his first collegiate
shutout, while James Sweeney recorded five saves in goal for the
Cobras.
The Pacers outshot the Cobras
21-17 with USC Aiken taking three more shots-on-goal than Coker at
8-5.
The Pacers will now hit the
road for a three-game road-trip as USC Aiken will first travel to
Dahlonega, Ga. on Saturday, Sept. 11 for their first Peach Belt
Conference tilt against the Saints of North Georgia. The match is
