– Aubrey Danielson and the USC Aiken women's soccer
team tried frantically to erase a two-goal deficit in the final 20
minutes, but the Pacers would not able to come all the way back in
a 2-1 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic in a non-conference women's
soccer neutral site match at Silverbacks Park.
The
Sailfish scored both of their goals in the first 18 minutes of the
match. The two teams would remain scoreless until the
71st-minute when Danielson (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman)
took advantage of a dropped ball by the Palm Beach Atlantic
goalkeeper to pull the Pacers back to within one at 2-1.
The Pacers would be unable to square the
game down the stretch with the Sailfish emerging with the narrow
one-goal victory.
The
Sailfish owned a 12-6 overall shot advantage in the contest, but
the Pacers outshot Palm Beach Atlantic in the second half, 5-4. The
Sailfish took two more corner kicks than the Pacers at
4-2.
Palm Beach
Atlantic acquired the first goal in the match at the 12:27 mark
when Andrea Jefferson scored off an assist from Ashley Shoaf. Just
over five minutes later, Angie Kuhn netted the eventual game-winner
for Palm Beach Atlantic at the 17:30 mark of the first
half.
USC Aiken
with the loss drops to 2-4 on the 2010 season. Palm Beach Atlantic
is now 5-2 on the year.
USC Aiken
will next welcome current national No. 2 Columbus State to the
"Pacer Pit" for a 5 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 25. The match
