Danielson's Late Goal Not Enough in 2-1 Pacer Loss to Palm Beach Atlantic

Box Score

ATLANTA – Aubrey Danielson and the USC Aiken women's soccer team tried frantically to erase a two-goal deficit in the final 20 minutes, but the Pacers would not able to come all the way back in a 2-1 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic in a non-conference women's soccer neutral site match at Silverbacks Park.

The Sailfish scored both of their goals in the first 18 minutes of the match. The two teams would remain scoreless until the 71st-minute when Danielson (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) took advantage of a dropped ball by the Palm Beach Atlantic goalkeeper to pull the Pacers back to within one at 2-1.

The Pacers would be unable to square the game down the stretch with the Sailfish emerging with the narrow one-goal victory.

The Sailfish owned a 12-6 overall shot advantage in the contest, but the Pacers outshot Palm Beach Atlantic in the second half, 5-4. The Sailfish took two more corner kicks than the Pacers at 4-2.

Palm Beach Atlantic acquired the first goal in the match at the 12:27 mark when Andrea Jefferson scored off an assist from Ashley Shoaf. Just over five minutes later, Angie Kuhn netted the eventual game-winner for Palm Beach Atlantic at the 17:30 mark of the first half.

USC Aiken with the loss drops to 2-4 on the 2010 season. Palm Beach Atlantic is now 5-2 on the year.

USC Aiken will next welcome current national No. 2 Columbus State to the "Pacer Pit" for a 5 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 25. The match will be able to be followed live on USC Aiken's official athletic website at www.PacerSports.com.
