Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – Four different Pacers scored in a 4-0 USC
Aiken women's soccer non-conference victory over St. Andrews on
Tuesday evening at the "Pacer Pit."
The Pacers controlled play in the match from the start to the
finish in the resounding victory to improve to 2-3 on the 2010
season. St. Andrews with the loss dropped to 1-5 on the year.
USC Aiken opened up its scoring in the match in the
16th-minute when Carly Minx
(Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford) volleyed in a failed clearance
from the St. Andrews defense from approximately 28 yards out.
The Pacers would add another at the 32:34 mark when freshman Alex Cohen
(Evans, Ga./Greenbrier) collected goal No. 1 in her collegiate
career on a blast from 20 yards out into the upper left corner.
USC Aiken would enter intermission up 3-0 as Cohen's fellow
freshman Madeline
Fellabom (Mount Pleasant, S.C./Wando) got into the action on a
rocket shot into the upper right corner from 25 yards out at the
39:42 mark.
The Pacers would tack on one more in the 71st-minute
when senior Katie Rumble (Aiken,
S.C./South Aiken) took a give-and-go lay-off from Fellabom and
neatly placed it into the lower left corner.
USC Aiken finished with 34 more shots than the Knights in the
match at 40-6. The Pacers took 19 shots in the first half before
attempting another 21 in the second stanza. USC Aiken owned a 13-0
advantage in corner kicks.
USC Aiken netminders Nicole Westphal
(Springfield, Va./Paul VI Catholic) and Alli Edens (Lexington,
S.C. /College of Charleston) combined on the shutout victory. Both
played a half.
St. Andrews goalkeeper Becca Knott played all 90 minutes between
the pipes for the Knights, making 16 saves.
USC Aiken has two tough tests ahead this week, beginning with a
road neutral site match against Palm Beach Atlantic at Silverbacks
Park in Atlanta, Ga. on Thursday, Sept. 23. USC Aiken will then
welcome current national No. 2 Columbus State to the "Pacer Pit"
for a 5 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 25.
