N.C. – The USC Aiken women's soccer team suffered a
heartbreaking 1-0 overtime loss to Catawba in non-conference
women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock
Field.
Neither
USC Aiken nor Catawba was able to find the back of the net through
the first 90 minutes of regulation. Catawba's Athena Bless
acquired the 1-0 win for the Indians with her golden goal just 1:27
into the first overtime. The goal was the third of the year for
Bless.
The loss
to Catawba dropped USC Aiken to 1-3 on the 2010 season. Catawba
moved to 3-1-1 on the year with the overtime victory over the
Pacers.
Catawba
held a 13-3 advantage in shots in its win. All three of USC
Aiken's shots in the contest were on frame.
Pacer
freshman Alex Cohen (Evans, Ga./Greenbrier) picked up two of USC
Aiken's three shots in the match.
USC Aiken
goalkeeper Nicole Westphal (Springfield, Va./Paul VI Catholic)
finished with six saves between the pipes.
USC Aiken
returns home next for its second home match of the year against St.
