Final Results
CONWAY, S.C. –In a
highly competitive field, the University of South Carolina Aiken
women's cross country team finished eighth as a team at the
Sixth Annual Coastal Carolina Cross Country Invitational on Friday
evening at the Quail Creek Golf Course.
Pacer freshman Keely Gillespie (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta)
once again was the top finisher for USC Aiken, coming in
26th with a time of 20:23.30. The time is the sixth-best
time in USC Aiken history.
Senior Nicole Maitland
(Chapin, S.C./Chapin) had the second-best time among all Pacers in
the event at 21:53.00. The time left Maitland in 43rd.
Just behind Maitland in 49th was Julia Van Vollenhoven
(Chapin, S.C./Chapin). Van Vollenhoven ended her efforts with a
time of 22:07.70.
USC Aiken as a team
collected a total time of 1:49.51.20 to end the meet in eighth
place.
Host Coastal Carolina acquired the team crown in the meet with a
total team time of 1:34.53.50. UNC Wilmington's Lindsey Ester
claimed the individual title with her time of 18:20.30. She bested
second place finisher Hailey Neal of Liberty (18:26.60) by six
seconds.
USC Aiken will return home next to host to the Bridgestone-Pacer
Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 25. The race will serve as USC
Aiken's first full meet at the Pacers' top-of-the-line
home course, Pacer Path.
The Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational will feature six different
divisions. The collegiate men and women will get things underway
first with the 8K collegiate men's meet set to start at 8
a.m. The women's 5K collegiate meet will begin shortly
thereafter at 8:45 a.m. Immediately after the collegiate meets,
high school teams from around the area will compete with girls and
boys varsity and girls and boys junior varsity teams scheduled to
participate in the First Annual Bridgestone-Pacer
Invitational.
