Box Score 2 AIKEN, S.C. – The
University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team (3-4, 1-0 PBC)
grounded the Flying Fleet of Erskine College 3-0 Saturday afternoon
on the second day of the USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational at the
Convocation Center. Still worn down from playing a game against the
Falcons of Montevallo earlier in the day, the Fleet were no match
for the well-rested Pacers who dominated all three sets of the
match claiming victory 25-15, 25-13 and 25-17.
10 Pacers tallied at least one
kill in the match with sophomore Shannon Byers (Morristown,
Minn./Faribault) leading all players with eight kills to go along
with eight digs. Freshman Leah Rodgers (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary)
was close behind with seven kills of her own while Lindsay Mortenson (Aliso Viejo, Calif/Santa Margarita Catholic) chipped in
five kills.
The Pacers recorded 13 service
aces in the match with Samantha Lukralle (Lindenhurst,
N.Y./Lindenhurst) nailing four and Mortenson tallying
three.
Erskine was lead in their
attack by Sandra Campbell who recorded six kills while Larz Chabra
lead all players with 17 assists.
The Fleet failed to hit in the
positives, hitting -.062 thanks in part to USC Aiken's stout
blocking defense that knocked down 11 total blocks. The Pacer
offense hit .244 in the contest recording 32 total
kills.
The Pacers will now close out
the 2010 USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational with a 4 p.m. match on
the main arena floor against head coach Glenn Cox's alma
mater, Valdosta State.
