Box Score DAHLONEGA,
Ga. – USC Aiken looked to mount an attack early in the second
half with a Brittany Moores
goal, but it would in the end not be enough as the Pacers fell 3-1
to North Georgia in their Peach Belt Conference opener on Saturday
evening.
North
Georgia improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the PBC with its victory
over the Pacers, while USC Aiken drops to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in
league play on the young season with the loss.
A freshman
from Blythewood, S.C., Moores netted the first goal of her career
in the 47th-minute on an assist from Jenny Pineiro
(Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester).
The goal
by Moores was the fourth goal of the contest. North Georgia opened
the scoring in the seventh minute on a goal on a header from
Samantha Abrahart. The goal was Abrahart's fourth of the
season.
The two
teams looked as if they would enter intermission with the score 1-0
in the Saints' favor, but two quick goals in the last five minutes
of the first stanza left the Pacers behind 3-0 entering halftime.
Emily Bowen secured both of the goals, scoring at the 41:53 mark
and the 42:07 mark.
The Pacers
would strike quickly with the Moores goal in the opening two
minutes of the second half, but a 25-4 shot advantage and a
two-goal deficit would prove to be too much in the Pacers' hopes of
obtaining win No. 1 on the year.
USC Aiken
will stay on the road for its next match, traveling to Brevard on
Wednesday, Sept. 15. Kick-off in the match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
