Pacers Unable to Weather Saints in Shortened Match

Box Score

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Pacers were not able to hold off the weather or North Georgia in a rain-shortened 1-0 loss to the Saints in the Pacers' Peach Belt Conference opener on Saturday evening at the North Georgia Soccer Complex.

The loss left the Pacers still searching for their first win of the 2010 campaign as the Pacers are now 0-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the PBC on the year. North Georgia remained unbeaten in 2010 with the win over the Pacers. North Georgia is now 3-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the PBC.

The match on Saturday was halted in the 78th-minute. Per NCAA rules the match had been played long enough to be considered an official game.

The match began with the two teams playing almost 25 minutes before the match was suspended for an hour and 13 minutes due to inclement weather.

The two squads entered the long rain delay even at 0-0. Once the match commenced again and after over 55 minutes of neither team being able to find the back of the net in official game action, the Saints were able to produce a goal in the 56th-minute. Gray Phelps procured the goal for North Georgia on an assist from Max Angel. The goal was the first of the year for Phelps.

Phelps' tally would prove to be all that the Saints would need as inclement weather once again halted things. This time the lightning delay at the 77:25 mark would prove to be too much as the officials declared it an official game and awarded the Saints the narrow 1-0 victory.

North Georgia out-shot the Pacers 20-7 in the match. The Saints held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks and the two teams committed 12 fouls each.

The USC Aiken men's soccer team will next travel to Tigerville, S.C. to face off against North Greenville at 7 p.m.  on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
