After opening up the season by
going 2-2 in the Carolina Challenge in Banner Elk, N.C. featuring
some of the toughest competition in the Southeast Region, the
University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team will play host
to the 2010 USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational on Friday, Sept. 10
and Saturday, Sept. 11. The Pacers will play four matches over the
two days, including one key Peach Belt Conference match. Seven
other teams will descend upon Aiken, S.C. to participate in the
two-day tournament in the USC Aiken Convocation Center.
The Pacers will open their
tournament with a 3 p.m. match on the main arena floor against the
Falcons of the University of Montevallo in their first regular
season PBC league game. USC Aiken and Montevallo have met on the
court just five times with the Falcons owning the 5-0 lead in the
series.
USC Aiken will then play in
the 7 p.m. night-cap match on the main arena floor against the
Trojans of Anderson University. The Pacers and Trojans have squared
off just twice with the Pacers owning the 2-0 lead in the young
series.
Saturday will start off with
the Pacers challenging the Flying Fleet of Erskine on the main
arena floor at high noon. The Pacers have grounded the Fleet all
five times the two teams have met to hold the 5-0 series lead going
into this weekend's match.
USC Aiken will then close the
curtains on their first home tournament Saturday afternoon with the
very last match of the weekend. The Pacers will take on head coach
Glenn Cox's alma mater, the Blazers of Valdosta State at 4
p.m. The Pacers and Blazers are tied in their series at
1-1.
