AUGUSTA, Ga. – USC Aiken sophomore outside hitter Shannon
Byers was named to the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Preseason
Women's Volleyball team it was announced on Thursday, Aug. 26
by the league office.
A native of Morristown, Minn., Byers earned All-Conference
plaudits at the conclusion of the 2009 season as a second-team
member.
As a freshman, Byers led the 2009 Pacer squad in kills with 326 in
her 32 matches, good enough to place her ninth overall in the PBC.
She also led the team in kills per game averaging 2.69 kills per
game. She was second on the team in digs (325) and fourth on the
team with service aces (31).
The 2010 Preseason All-Conference team features players from five
of the eight conference schools. Armstrong Atlantic, Lander and
Flaglerall had two players named to the squad while Francis Marion
and USC Aiken each had one player honored.
Byers and the 2010 Pacer volleyball team will look to begin their
regular season with a four-match weekend tournament hosted by
Lees-McRae Labor Day weekend. On Friday, Sept. 3 the Pacers will
take to the court against tournament host Lees-McRae at 1 p.m.
before concluding the day with a 7 p.m. night-cap match against
reigning PBC regular season and tournament champions Flagler
College. The next day USC Aiken will take on Palm Beach Atlantic at
10 a.m. before concluding their tournament appearance with a 3:30
p.m. match against Coker College.
USC Aiken's first home match will be played during the 2010
USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational the following weekend on Sept.
10.
