AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken head
women's basketball coach Mike Brandt announced the addition
of transfers Tiffani Moody and Lexy Williams on Friday, Aug. 20,
2010.
Moody joins the USC Aiken women's basketball program after
one year at NCAA Division II Ohio Valley University, while Williams
returns to the city of Aiken to play for the Pacers after a
redshirted season at NCAA Division I Georgia Southern University.
Moody is a 6-foot-5 center and Williams is a 5-foot-8 guard.
A native of Raleigh, N.C., Moody played her high school
basketball for Garner High School.
During her senior year at Garner, Moody averaged six points,
seven rebounds and three blocks per game. She was selected first
team All-Conference in the Greater Neuse Conference for her efforts
over the course of the season.
Moody helped lead her high school team to back-to-back regular
season conference championships and a tournament championship
during her time at Garner. For her AAU team, the Garner Flames, she
helped guide the team to the Eastern Regional Championship in 2007
and a fourth place finish in the state of North Carolina.
During her freshman season at Ohio Valley in 2008-09, Moody
averaged seven points and seven boards. She also led the Fighting
Scots in field goal percentage and blocked shots during her
freshman campaign. She was redshirted during the 2009-10 season so
she will have three full years of eligibility remaining with the
Pacers.
“It is not often that you are blessed enough to get
someone of Tiffani's size and mobility,” noted Brandt.
“I am very excited to have her for the next three years. She
gives us a nice inside presence. Having her on our squad will
present matchup problems for other teams and she will allow us to
do some other things.”
Williams returns to Aiken after spending her freshman year at
Georgia Southern. Williams did not participate in a contest last
year as she was redshirted, meaning she will have four years to
suit up as a Pacer.
Williams was a four-year starter at Aiken High School. She was
the leading scorer for the Hornets during her junior and senior
campaigns. She was team captain and Most Valuable Player both
seasons, while also claiming all-conference plaudits both of the
seasons.
She was invited to play in the Georgia-South Carolina all-star
game at the conclusion of her prep career.
“It is always great to get a player of this caliber to
come home,” said Brandt. “We recruited Lexy hard out of
high school and I guess it paid off. We expect a great four years
from her. This is a great thing for our community and I truly feel
that she will carry on the tradition of Aiken High School graduates
Nola Grant and Kendra Chandler in our program.”
The two transfers join a USC Aiken women's basketball
program that concluded the 2009-10 season with a 15-13 record. The
Pacers closed out the 2009-10 season by winning nine of their last
12 games.
The Pacers were ranked 22nd in the Women's Basketball
Coaches Association (WBCA) 2009-10 Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The
Pacers finished the 2009-10 season with a cumulative Grade Point
Average of 3.442. USC Aiken was the only Peach Belt Conference
institution on the prestigious list in 2009-10.
The Pacers' 2009-10 team GPA is the highest GPA among all
PBC institutions in the history of the WBCA Top 25 Honor Roll.
