2010 USC
Aiken Women's Soccer Schedule
AIKEN, S.C. – University
of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer head coach Sue Vodicka
officially unveiled the 2010 Pacer women's soccer schedule on
Tuesday, June 8, 2010.
Coming off a season that saw the Pacers become one of the top 20
most improved teams in all of NCAA Division II women's
soccer, the 2010 Pacer campaign features 10 home games and a full
Peach Belt Conference slate at the “Pacer Pit.” The
schedule also includes a neutral site contest against Palm Beach
Atlantic at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.
USC Aiken will commence its 2010 regular season with a home game
for the first time since the beginning of the 2007 season against
Belmont Abbey at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8. It will be the fifth
all-time meeting between the Pacers and the Crusaders.
The Pacers will hit the road for the first time later that weekend
for its first Peach Belt Conference game of the year against North
Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga. The 1 p.m. tilt on Saturday, Sept. 11
marks the second straight season that the Pacers have undertaken
league action against the Saints. Last year, USC Aiken dropped a
heartbreaking 2-1 decision to North Georgia, who owns a slight
3-2-2 all-time series advantage over USC Aiken.
The North Georgia game is the beginning of a season-long
three-game road swing for the Pacers, who will next travel to
Brevard, N.C. to square off with the Tornados of Brevard for the
first time in program history. The match is scheduled to get
underway at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15. USC Aiken will then
close out its tough road stretch with a game in Salisbury, N.C.
against Catawba at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18. It will be the
first meeting between the two programs since 2005.
The Pacers return to the “Pacer Pit” for a home match
against St. Andrews after tangling with Catawba. The match against
the Knights is the first of three games in five days on the week
for the Pacers. The Pacers, who are 3-1-1 all-time against the
Knights, will hit the pitch against St. Andrews at 5 p.m. on
Tuesday, Sept. 18.
Just two days after squaring off with St. Andrews, USC Aiken will
travel just up the road to Atlanta to take on Palm Beach Atlantic
for the first time in program history at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept.
23 at Atlanta Silverbacks Park. The Pacers will close out the
extremely brutal week with a home match against Peach Belt
Conference power Columbus State at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.
25.
The Pacers will conclude the month of September and open their
second month of the 2010 season next with road dates against
Armstrong Atlantic State (Sept. 29 – 5 p.m.) and Flagler
(Oct. 2 – 1 p.m.).
USC Aiken will then return home for the first contest of a
season-high three-match homestand that begins with a league contest
against UNC Pembroke at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6. USC Aiken will
then welcome Montevallo to the “Pacer Pit” for a 5 p.m.
contest on Saturday, Oct. 9. USC Aiken's homestand will then
conclude with a home game against league and proximity rival Lander
at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
The Pacers will then square off against Peach Belt Conference foe
Clayton State in Morrow, Ga. (Oct. 16 – 7:30 p.m.) before
returning home for two non-conference games. The Pacers will first
welcome Anderson for a 7 p.m. match on Monday, Oct. 18. The Pacers
own a commanding 5-1 all-time series lead over the Trojans. Two
days later, Newberry will visit the “Pacer Pit” for a 5
p.m. match on Wednesday, Oct. 20.
USC Aiken will close out its regular season road games on
Saturday, Oct. 23 with a road game against Georgia Southwestern in
Americus, Ga. Kick-off in the game is slated for 1 p.m. The Pacers
are 4-0-1 all-time against the Hurricanes.
The Pacers' regular season will close with two home games at
the “Pacer Pit.” The season-ending homestand begins
with a contest against Coker at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25. The
contest comes in a little over a year after the Pacers obtained the
largest win of the Vodicka era with an 8-1 win over Coker in
Hartsville, S.C. during the 2009 season. The Pacers own the
all-time series over Coker at 5-2.
USC Aiken's regular season and 2010 Peach Belt Conference
campaign will end with a 7 p.m. home game against league rival
Georgia College & State on Wednesday, Oct. 27. The regular
season finale will serve as senior day for the Pacer women's
soccer program.
The 2009 USC Aiken women's soccer campaign ended with the Pacers
owning a 6-11 record overall. USC Aiken finished the season winning
four of its final five games. The Pacers concluded the 2009 Peach
Belt Conference season with a 2-8 record.
In a season full of close
contests for the Pacer women, USC Aiken ended its 2009 Peach Belt
Conference slate having been on the losing side of three overtime
games in PBC action. In total, USC Aiken finished its 2009 season
with nine one-goal losses. The Pacers lost six of their eight games
in PBC play by just one goal.
USC Aiken's defensive
unit had a tremendous season-ending stretch of not allowing a goal.
The Pacer defense had not given up a goal in just over 501 minutes
before surrendering the first goal of the match to GCSU in their
season finale. The Pacers had played the entire 90 minutes of the
previous four matches without surrendering a goal.
