2010 NCAA Division II ITA All-America Teams
AIKEN, S.C. – USC Aiken's Gregory Andrade and Juan
Xavier Ponce were chosen to the 2010 NCAA Division II
Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men's All-America
team.
The duo garnered All-America honors by virtue of finishing the 2010
spring season in the top 10 as a team. The tandem concluded their
first year as a duo ranked ninth nationally by the ITA.
The sophomore tandem finished the 2010 campaign with an 18-5
record. Playing all of their matches at No. 1 doubles, Andrade and
Ponce won 11 straight matches at one point during the past
season.
The duo, who were tabbed as first team All-Peach Belt Conference
selections in 2010, was 7-2 in Peach Belt Conference
action.
In singles, Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Sergio D'Amorim) was 12-8
overall, while Ponce (Miami, Fla. /Drury University) was a
team-best 14-7 overall. Ponce was chosen to the PBC
All-Conference second team for his efforts in singles in 2010.
As a team in 2010, USC Aiken ended the past year by making its
fifth consecutive NCAA regional appearance. The Pacers bowed out in
the first round, but still finished the year with a very
respectable 11-12 overall record.
The Pacers were ranked 26th in the final ITA poll of the 2010
season.
