All-District
AIKEN, S.C. – USC Aiken baseball student-athlete Gary
Asbill was selected to the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic
All-District III baseball first team.
Asbill was tabbed as the first team catcher. With his honoring
as a first team member, Asbill is now eligible for Academic
All-America consideration.
Nominations and voting for the All-America programs are
conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of
America. There is a University Division (Division I programs) and a
College Division (DII, DIII, NAIA, NJCAA programs).
Three Academic All-District teams are chosen in each district,
with those on the All-District first teams placed on the national
ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
A native of Batesburg, S.C., Asbill currently owns a 3.409 Grade
Point Average as an English major.
Asbill is currently hitting .280 (37-for-132) on the 2010 season
for the Pacers. The Pacer catcher in 41 appearances has collected
17 RBIs and scored 27 runs.
The senior has obtained five extra-base knocks on three doubles
and two home runs.
In the field, Asbill presently has 199 putouts and 23 assists.
This is Asbill's second award of the spring as he was also
given the USC Aiken Male Sportsmanship Award at the USC Aiken
Athletic Banquet at the end of April.
Asbill and Peach Belt Conference Tournament host USC Aiken will
next play in the final game of the opening day of the 2010 Peach
Belt Conference Championship on Saturday at Roberto Hernandez
Stadium.
The fourth seed in the PBC East, USC Aiken will open the PBC
Tournament against PBC regular season champion and West No. 1 seed
Georgia College & State at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 8 at the
'Bert.
