2009-10 PBC Women's Basketball All-Academic
Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Five USC Aiken women's basketball
players were chosen to the 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference Women's
Basketball All-Academic team on Friday, April 2. The team was
released from the conference office.
USC Aiken's five players included senior Marissa Norman,
juniors Triahna Harris and Nakia Pinkney and sophomores Tina
Friedrich and Lindsay Sundberg. The five Pacers were a part of a
total of 11 on the 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference Women's
Basketball All-Academic Team.
USC Aiken has now placed five on the All-Academic team for each
of the last two seasons. Harris with her honor this season became
the program's first ever two-time winner of the award.
A native of Skokie, Ill., Norman concluded her senior campaign
shooting over 66 percent from beyond the arc. The Niles North High
School product averaged 5.1 minutes per game off the bench for the
Pacers.
Norman will graduate from USC Aiken with a Sociology degree. She
currently boasts a 3.30 Grade Point Average.
Harris is a native of Springfield, Va. She played her high
school basketball at West Springfield High School.
The two-time PBC All-Academic selection dished out an assist in
every game for the Pacers during the 2009-10 season. She dished out
three or more assists in 25 of USC Aiken's 28 contests.
Harris captured her career high with 10 assists in USC
Aiken's win over Flagler on Feb. 8, 2010. She enters her
senior season fourth all-time in assists with 311 career assists.
The Pacer floor general on the hardwood also holds court in the
classroom where she currently owns a 3.46 GPA as an Exercise and
Sports Science major.
Pinkney is a junior Biology major who presently carries a GPA of
3.22.
The Orangeburg, S.C. native averaged 7.5 points, 3.3 rebounds
and 1.1 assists per game for the Pacers in the 2009-10 season. She
scored a career-best 21 points in USC Aiken's victory over
North Georgia on Jan. 18, 2010.
The Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School product scored in double
figures nine times for the Pacers during her junior season.
Friedrich is a native of Douglasville, Ga. She suited up in high
school for Hiram High School.
She enters her junior season in 2010-11 with a GPA of 3.80 as a
Biology major. She saw action in 22 games for the Pacers over the
course of the past season, averaging 3.7 minutes per game.
A Special Education major with a 3.35 GPA, Sundberg knocked down
a team-best 42 three-pointers during the 2009-10 season. She will
enter her junior season in the top 12 in school history in
three-pointers made with 65.
A native of Mansfield, Conn., Sundberg scored in double figures
seven times during the 2009-10 season. The E.O. Smith High School
product scored a season-high 15 points in two contests.
The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the
outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the
classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must
1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and
be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20
cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at
least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The
Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and
select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 28 NCAA
Division II National Championships. The PBC features 13 member
institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida
and Alabama that compete in 13 championship sports. The 2009-10
members of the PBC are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic
State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State
University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia
College & State University, Georgia Southwestern State
University, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North
Georgia College & State University, University of North
Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
