2010 PBC Softball Championship Official Website
FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken
softball team will enter the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Softball
Tournament this weekend as the seventh seed.
The Pacers are slated to square off for the fifth time this
season against the nationally-ranked and second-seeded Augusta
State Jaguars in the first round at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 16 at
Freedom Florence Recreation Complex in Florence, S.C.
The PBC Softball Tournament will be a double elimination style
tournament and will begin with eight games on Friday, Apr. 16. The
five semifinal games are scheduled for the next day, Saturday, Apr.
17 with the championship game slated for Sunday, Apr. 18.
The winner of the USC Aiken and Augusta State contest will go on
to play the winner of the tournament host and No. 3 Francis
Marion–No. 6 UNC Pembroke game later Friday evening at 6:30
p.m. The season will not be over for the losing team, however, as
the loser of the USC Aiken-Augusta State game will go on to play
the loser of the Francis Marion– UNC Pembroke game Friday
evening at 6:30 p.m.
National No. 1 and top-seeded North Georgia will take on the
eighth-seeded Lander Bearcats in the first set of games on Friday,
while fourth-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State will face-off against
the five seed of Flagler.
Last season, the Pacers advanced farther than any other softball
squad in USC Aiken history. The 2009 Pacers became the first of
Head Coach Jerry Snyder's squads to reach the NCAA Division
II Tournament.
The Pacers and Jaguars have tangled on the diamond four times
already this season with Augusta State having claimed the narrow
victory in all four games, but the Pacers pushed the
nationally-ranked Jaguars into extra innings in two of the four
games.
