Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AIKEN, S.C. – Alvin Brown finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks in leading the 13th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team to a 101-86 win over Mars Hill in non-conference action Thursday at the Convocation Center.

Brown's career night helped the Pacers close out the 2010 portion of its 2010-11 schedule with an 8-2 record overall. Mars Hill with the loss to USC Aiken on Thursday dropped to 4-6 on the season.

USC Aiken dominated the game basically from start to finish. Mars Hill opened the game with a 2-0 lead, but USC Aiken was ahead 18-4 after a Brown (Fort Washington, Md./James Madison) dunk with 15:45 remaining in the first half of play.

The Pacers would be ahead by double digits for most of the first half, but Mars Hill had whittled the Pacers lead down to seven at 47-40 by intermission.

After a 6-2 run to start the second half, USC Aiken would lead by double digits for most of the rest of the game, going up by as many as 19 with 7:38 left in the second stanza.

The 101 points secured in the win over Mars Hill on Thursday marked the second time in the 2010-11 season that USC Aiken has scored 100 or more. The Pacers opened the year with a 108-63 victory over Voorhees at the Convocation Center.

Brown collected his first career double-double in the win over Mars Hill with his 21 points and 12 rebounds. His six blocks were a USC Aiken career-best, but not his overall career-high as he had seven swats last year in a James Madison victory over Longwood on Feb. 22, 2010.

In only his second game back after spending roughly a month out due to injury, Chase Holmes (Chesnee, S.C./Presbyterian) had his coming out party for the Pacer faithful, scoring a USC Aiken career-high 23 points. The point total was six off of his career-high of 29 that he set last year in a Presbyterian loss to North Carolina.

Preseason All-America selection Byron Faison (Sumter, S.C./Crestwood) continued his strong senior season in Thursday's win over Mars Hill, collecting 19 points and four assists.

Jesse Seilern (Innsbruck, Austria/Kapfenberg) finished with 12 points and six rebounds in the Pacer win, while Kevin Willis (Atlanta, Ga./Kaskaskia) was the final Pacer in double figures with 10 points.

Re'mon Nelson (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester) finished with a career-best 11 assists in the win over Mars Hill. He also had eight points.

USC Aiken as a team shot 63.6 percent (42-for-66). The Pacers scorched the nets in the second half in a 68.6 percent (24-for-35) shooting performance.

Mars Hill finished its loss to USC Aiken shooting 45.9 percent (28-for-61).

Four Lions recorded double figures with both Sammy Emile and Donterious Hughes leading the way with 20 points each.

The game served as USC Aiken's final non-conference encounter for quite some time as USC Aiken opens the 2011 calendar year by jumping fully into Peach Belt Conference action. USC Aiken's final non-conference game of the 2010-11 season will not take place until Saturday, Feb. 26 in its regular season finale against King in Bristol, Tenn.

The Pacers will next commence PBC action on Monday, Jan. 3 against Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga. Tip-off in the men's and women's conference twinbill is scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m. The 25th-ranked Pacer women will take on the Georgia Southwestern women prior to the men's game at 5:30 p.m.
