HICKORY, N.C. – Four players finished in double figures and the 25th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team reeled off its sixth consecutive victory in a 75-68 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in non-conference women's basketball action on Thursday afternoon at Shuford Gymnasium.
The Pacers' sixth straight victory leaves them entering their holiday break with an overall record of 11-2 on the 2010-11 season. Lenoir-Rhyne dropped to 4-4 on the year with its second loss of the year to the Pacers.
The game was also USC Aiken's last against non-conference opposition in the current year as the Pacers will play the rest of their 2010-11 slate in the 2011 calendar year against Peach Belt Conference opposition.
Nakia Pinkney (Orangeburg, S.C./Orangeburg-Wilkinson) was the top Pacer scorer on Thursday, ending the game with 18 points. She obtained three of her five field goals from beyond the arc where she was 3-for-4.
Deandra Schirmer (Holton, Kan./Cloud County) was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field en route to 14 points. She was 6-for-9 from the charity stripe. She also had five rebounds.
USC Aiken's Hannah DeGraffinreed was not far behind Schirmer with 13 points and four rebounds.
The final Pacer in double digits was Lindsay Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn./E.O. Smith), who ended her day with 10 points.
Only one Lenoir-Rhyne player was able to collect double figures, but Cameron Sealey did turn in quite an impressive performance with 24 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals.
As a team, USC Aiken finished the game shooting 46.8 percent (22-for-47). Lenoir-Rhyne shot 45.1 percent (23-for-51) as a squad in the game.
In a game that featured 54 fouls both teams ventured to the foul line a great deal with USC Aiken taking 34 foul shots. Lenoir-Rhyne had 25 attempts at the charity stripe in the game.
USC Aiken as a team shot 76.5 percent (26-of-34) at the free throw line, while Lenoir-Rhyne was 18-for-25 (72 percent) from the free throw line.
USC Aiken will next step on the hardwood on Jan. 3 for a Peach Belt Conference encounter with Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
