Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken defense held its opposition to just 38 points to leave the Pacers at 3-0 in Peach Belt Conference action in the 2010-11 season after a 45-38 victory over Columbus State on Saturday afternoon at the Lumpkin Center.
The victory improves USC Aiken to 9-2 (3-0 PBC) overall on the year. Columbus State falls to 5-2 (0-1 PBC). The win over Columbus State by USC Aiken also snapped a two-game losing streak to the Cougars.
The 38 points given up by the Pacers in the win is just four points away from the least points allowed by a Pacer women's basketball team in a Peach Belt Conference game. The Pacers allowed the fewest points in program history in a league game in a 42-34 win over Augusta State on Dec. 1, 2001.
The least points allowed by any Pacer women's basketball team is the paltry 28 points USC Aiken allowed in a 77-28 win over Allen on Nov. 20, 1999.
USC Aiken, which is now in the midst of a season-high four-game winning streak, has now held six of their eleven foes in the 2010-11 season to under 50 points. USC Aiken is 6-0 in the six contests.
Neither team shot extremely well from the floor on Saturday with USC Aiken (31.4 percent) narrowly out-shooting Columbus State (29.4 percent).
USC Aiken's Hannah DeGraffinreed (Raleigh, N.C./Merrimack) was the top scorer for the Pacers, tying game-high honors with 13 points. DeGraffinreed was 7-for-8 from the charity stripe in the game.
Lindsay Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn./E.O. Smith) was the only other Pacer in double figures with 10 points.
Deandra Schirmer (Holton, Kan./Cloud County CC) and Tiffani Moody (Raleigh, N.C./Ohio Valley) led the Pacers in rebounds with each corralling seven boards.
Chatil Bradford was the top scorer for the Cougars in their loss to the Pacers with 13. Columbus State's Marah Wright grabbed ten defensive rebounds to lead the Cougars in caroms.
USC Aiken returns home next for a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday, Dec. 14 against Shaw at the Convocation Center. It will be Junior Pacer Night at the Convocation Center.
