AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken cross country
runner Keely Gillespie was chosen as the South Carolina Education
Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week
on Nov. 7, 2010.
This marks the second time in the 2010 season that Gillespie has
been honored with the award as she also acquired the inaugural
South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department
Student-Athlete of the Week award of the 2010-11 USC Aiken athletic
season on Sept. 5, 2010.
Gillespie continued her tremendous freshman season last week by
being chosen Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year on
Saturday, Nov. 6 at the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Women's Cross
Country Championship at Blanchard Woods Park. The championship was
part of the inaugural Peach Belt Conference Fall Festival.
Gillespie finished the 6K PBC Cross Country Championship in
seventh place individually with a time of 25:21. The seventh place
finish in the championship garnered Gillespie (North Augusta,
S.C./North Augusta) first team all-conference accolades.
Gillespie's honoring as league Freshman of the Year comes
just two weeks after she captured the best time in school history
with a 19:34.8 in the 5K Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational.
USC Aiken's Days Inn Downtown Aiken Athletic Department
Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of September, Gillespie
has been the top finisher in all of USC Aiken's six meets in 2010.
She has collected three of the top six times in school history over
the course of the season.
The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic
Department Student-Athlete of the Week award honors one
student-athlete each week from an in-season sport for their hard
work and effort.
