Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Shannon Byers recorded her 12th double-double of the season while Samantha Lukralle surpassed the 600 digs in a season mark, but it was not enough to lift the University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team Friday evening as they dropped their final Peach Belt Conference match of the 2010 campaign to the University of Monvtevallo 3-1 at BankTrust Arena.
The Pacers came out of the gate strong claiming a thrilling first set 26-24 to continue an interesting streak where they have claimed the first set of each of their last four matches before dropping the match. The Falcons took flight in the second set claiming it 25-20 before finishing out the match 25-19 and 25-18 to procure the win.
USC Aiken closes out the regular season at 14-15 overall and 6-8 in the extremely tough PBC while the Montevallo ends their regular season at 22-10 overall and 11-2 in the league action.
Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault), who secured her impressive 12th double-double of the season by the second set of the match, led all attackers with a match-high-tying 14 kills to go along with her 14 digs. Fellow sophomore Lindsay Mortenson (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) and freshman Leah Rodgers (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) both had six kills a piece with both knocking down two total blocks.
Sophomore setter Ashley Farwell (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest Rolesville) recorded a double-double of her own, her ninth of the season, as she had 20 assists and 10 digs.
Lukralle (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) turned in another strong performance on the back row as she corralled in a match-high 29 digs. It is the 17th time this season Lukralle has recorded at least 20 digs in a match, lifting her to 603 total digs on the season; good enough for ninth all-time in the PBC for most digs in a season.
Montevallo had five players with double-digit kills in the match as Rebecca Dowd recorded a match-high-tying 14 kills while Taylor Chapman was close behind with 11 kills. Michelle Carle, Virginia Clay and Manyi Ati all had 10 kills each while Anna Garrison had a match-high 49 assists and 16 digs.
The Pacers will now have a week to prepare for the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Tournament to be held in Savannah, Ga. from Friday, Nov. 12 to Sunday, Nov. 14.
