Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – In her final home match as a Pacer, senior Megan Disney recorded a team-high-tying 11 kills and hit an impressive .500 to lead the University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team as they dropped their final home match of the season 3-2 to rival Augusta State Wednesday night at the Convocation Center.
The Pacers came out strong in the first set 25-14 but stumbled as the Jaguars pounced to claim the next two matches 25-22 before the Pacers could regain their stride in the fourth set to claim the set 25-14. Augusta State came out strong in the fifth set and was able to outlast USC Aiken to take the set with a 15-11 victory.
The Pacers end their home slate with an overall record of an even 14-14 and are now 6-7 in league action heading into their final match of the season while the Jaguars are now 11-20 overall and 4-10 in the league action.
Freshman Emily Maassen (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) joined Disney (Knoxville, Tenn./Karns) to lead USC Aiken's attack with 11 terminations each. Maassen also did her part on the front row knocking down six total blocks in the contest to tie sophomore Lindsay Mortenson (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) for most total blocks in the match.
Mortenson, Jessica Loper (McDonough, Ga./ELC) and Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault) all recorded nine kills in the match as Byers continued to battle hard on both offense and defense as she also corralled in 10 digs. Libero Samantha Lukralle continued to pad her record for most digs in a single season as she corralled in 22 digs in the match to bring her season total up to 574, leaving her tied for 12th in PBC history for digs in a single season.
Ashley Farwell recorded her eighth double-double of the season as she set up 27 assists and brought in 11 digs in the match.
Augusta State's Mandy Irizarry led all attackers with 13 kills while teammate Karolina Stenlund was just behind with 12 kills of her own.
Despite the loss, the Pacers were able to out-hit the Jaguars .211-.145 and recorded 64 total terminations to Augusta State's 49.
USC Aiken will close the curtains on their 2010 regular season campaign on Friday, Nov. 5. The Pacers will travel down to Montevallo, Ala. for a 6 p.m. league match against the Falcons of the University of Montevallo.
