Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – An extremely balanced University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team opened its 2010-11 home schedule with a 29-point 70-41 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday evening at the Convocation Center.
The Pacers had opened the year with seven consecutive road tilts and they made sure that they showed those in attendance at a Pacers women's basketball game for the first time on Monday what they had been missing as they turned a five-point halftime advantage into a resounding 29-point win.
The victory over the defending back-to-back South Atlantic Conference champions of Lenoir-Rhyne improved USC Aiken to 6-2 on the young season. Lenoir-Rhyne fell to 4-2 on the year with the loss to the Pacers.
The Pacers finished the contest with all 12 of their players in uniform scoring. Only one Pacer was in double figures in a game that saw the Pacers score 70 points.
Tiffani Moody (Raleigh, N.C./Ohio Valley) was the top producer for the Pacers in the contest, finishing with 11 points. Moody was 5-for-8 from the field in the game. She also had three rebounds and two blocks.
Hannah DeGraffinreed (Raleigh, N.C./Merrimack) and Deandra Schirmer (Holton, Kan./Cloud County) just missed out on double figures in the game with each collecting nine points. DeGraffinreed also added five rebounds, three steals and two assists, while Schirmer ended her evening with four rebounds and a block.
Only one Bear concluded the game in double figures with Cameron Sealey scoring 13 in the Lenoir-Rhyne losing effort.
USC Aiken finished the game shooting 46.4 percent (26-for-56) as a team. The Pacers were potent at the charity stripe as well where they shot 87.5 percent (14-for-16).
The Pacer defense continued their onslaught on their opposition in the win over the Bears by holding the defending SAC champions to a 28 percent (14-for-50) shooting performance.
Lenoir-Rhyne was the fourth team that the Pacers have held to under 50 points with the Pacers holding their foes to less than 50 in four of their games thus far in 2010-11. USC Aiken is 4-0 in the games, garnering wins over Carson-Newman, third-ranked Tusculum, NCAA Division I College of Charleston and Lenoir-Rhyne.
The Pacers are also now 3-0 against SAC opposition in 2010-11, besting Tusculum, Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne.
Both the USC Aiken men and women open Peach Belt Conference action on Wednesday, Dec. 1 against Francis Marion at the Convocation Center. The USC Aiken women will get things underway at 5:30 p.m. against the Francis Marion women. Immediately following the conclusion of the women's game, the seventh-ranked Pacer men and the Patriot men will hit the hardwood against one another at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The USC Aiken-Francis Marion doubleheader is part of the USC Aiken Holiday Fest. The Holiday's and Hoops event will feature special things inside and outside of the Convocation Center for the entire family. Pacer Fans can come check out how different Holidays are celebrated, eat some food and make some crafts, take your picture with Santa as well as enjoy the Men's & Women's Basketball Game afterwards.
The twinbill is also Concept H.R. Night at the Convocation Center. The USC Aiken athletic department will utilize the night to thank USC Aiken's official athletic website provider for all they do for the USC Aiken athletic department.
The doubleheader is also USC Aiken's annual Ovarian Cancer Awareness night.
Coca-Cola is also sponsoring a special residential face-off where the winning hall or building on the USC Aiken campus will obtain a special pizza party during halftime of the men's game that evening.
The USC Aiken athletic department will honor its fall student-athletes as well during the doubleheader.
