Pacers Bow Out of PBC Tournament With Loss to Fourth-Ranked Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. – The eighth-seeeded University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team saw its 2010 season come to a close with a 3-0 loss to top-seeded and current national No. 4 Clayton State in the opening round of the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Tournament on Tuesday evening at Laker Field.

The Pacers conclude their year with an overall record of 2-11-2.

The nationally fourth-ranked Lakers improve to 16-2 overall. They move on to the Peach Belt Conference Final Four, which will be contested at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga.

Clayton State netted the first of its three tallies on the evening just seconds before intermission with Deni Lulic scoring on a penalty kick at the 44:35 mark of the first half.

The score would remain 1-0 until the 61st-minute. Matty Phillips garnered Clayton State a 2-0 lead when he scored off an assist from Rhys Jukes.

Kevin Rodriquez acquired Clayton State's third and final goal at the 64:47 mark when he scored off an assist from Lulic.

Clayton State outshot the Pacers 21-9 in the match. The Lakers owned a slight 6-5 corner kick advantage.

The PBC Men's Soccer Tournament is part of the first-ever PBC Fall Festival which brings the men's and women's soccer championships and the men' s and women's cross country championships to the same venue on the same weekend. The festival will also feature several community events such as a free soccer clinic for children and a 5k/1k Fun Run and Walk, the proceeds of which will go towards endangered middle school sports programs in Columbia County, Ga.
