Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – Every University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball player scored and the 11th-ranked Pacers rolled to a 45-point 108-63 victory over Voorhees in its regular season opener on Wednesday evening at the Convocation Center.
The Pacers had five players collect double-digit outputs in the win. Much of USC Aiken's success on the evening could be attributed to the unselfish efforts of the entire Pacer team as the team finished with 27 total assists. The 27 assists fell just six shy of the single game school record of 33 set in a win over Johnson & Wales during the 1998-99 season.
The Pacers also had 10 blocks in the contest, which was three blocks shy of the single game school record of 13, which has been accomplished on four separate occasions.
USC Aiken as a team shot a scorching 59.7 percent (40-for-67) from the field in the contest. The Pacer defense in turn held the Tigers to a 26.6 percent (17-for-64) from the floor.
The Pacers knocked down 10 three-pointers in the game, while Voorhees was only able to connect upon 2 of its 11 three-point attempts.
Kevin Willis (Atlanta, Ga./Kaskaskia College) was the top scorer for the Pacers in the contest with 18 points. Willis was 8-for-10 from the floor in the win. He just missed out on a double-double as he brought in nine boards as well in the Pacer domination.
Preseason All-America selection Byron Faison (Sumter, S.C./Crestwood) acquired 17 points and four assists in the game. He was 7-for-13 from the field.
In his first regular season contest, Kenny Manigault (Summerville, S.C./Wichita State) was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor in the USC Aiken win. He finished with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Re'mon Nelson (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester) and Jesse Seilern (Innsbruck, Austria/Kapfenberg) were the final Pacers in double figures with 13 each. Nelson also had five assists and four steals.
Voorhees was led in the loss to the Pacers by Sam Dotson, who obtained a game-high 25 points. He was a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line.
The Pacers will next head to the Sunshine State for a top 15 showdown with current No. 5 Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla. on Saturday, Nov. 20. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
