Pacers' Season Ends With Semifinal Round Loss to Regular Season Champs

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team entered their semifinal round match as the underdog, but were unable to gain any momentum as they saw their season come to an end Saturday afternoon. The Pacers dropped their semifinal round match in three straight sets to the 2010 regular season Peach Belt Conference champs and league tournament favorites Flagler College.

The Pacers concluded their 2010 campaign with an overall record of 15-16 while Flagler advances to the championship match with an overall record of 26-8.

Flagler took control of the match early sweeping the three sets 25-21, 25-11 and finally 25-14.

USC Aiken was unable to get much going in the way of offense, but six Pacers were still able to record multiple kills. PBC All-Conference member Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault) led the charge with seven kills, giving her 18 total kills in the tournament and a team-high 339 total terminatins on the season while fellow sophomore Lindsay Mortenson (Aliso Viejo, Cali./Santa Margarita Catholic) was just one kill behind with six kills of her own.

2010 PBC Libero of the Year Samantha Lukralle (Lindnehurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) corralled in a match-high 12 digs to end her record-breaking season with 634 total digs on the season, shattering the record she set last year as a freshman.

Senior Megan Disney (Knoxville, Tenn./Karns) wrapped up her final season in a Pacer uniform tallying five total kills to give her a team-second best 226 terminations for the season and 689 kills in her career. She ended her final season in a Pacer uniform with a team second-best 92 total blocks for the year, giving her 171 total blocks in her career.

Flagler was led by 2010 PBC All-Conference member and the 2010 PBC Player of the Year Meg Weathersby who accumulated 11 kills in the match while teammate Dianna Craine added 10 terminations of her own.

For the second year in a row, Flagler will advance to the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. where they will face the winner of the Armstrong Atlantic-University of Montevallo match.
