Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – On an
afternoon that saw the University of South Carolina Aiken women's
soccer team do their part to "Kick Out Cancer," the Pacers tied the
Falcons of the visiting University of Montevallo 2-2 Saturday
evening at "Pacer Pit" in Peach Belt Conference action.
USC Aiken improves to 2-8-1
overall and 0-5-1 in PBC action while the Falcons are now 3-7-2 and
1-4-1 in league play.
Brittany Moores
(Blythewood, S.C./Blythewood) gave USC Aiken the early 1-0 lead in
just the ninth minute of play. Aubrey Danielson
(Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) served up a corner kick to Alex Cohen (Evans,
Ga./Greenbrier) who flicked the ball to Moores who in turn turned
and blasted the ball into the lower corner of the net.
30 minutes of play passed
before Christine Prince flicked a shot off an assist from Erin
Jolley into the right corner of the goal to pull the score even at
one all.
Then in the 43rd minute,
Asgerdur Palsdottir gave Montevallo the 2-1 lead off a penalty kick
heading into intermission.
The Pacers continued to fight
hard into the second half as in the 66th minute Katie Rumble (Aiken,
S.C./South Aiken) scored her second goal of the season to tie the
game at 2-2. Rumble found herself with the ball after Cohen sent a
shot towards the goal that deflected off the goal-keeper and right
into Rumble's feet who then calmly placed the ball into the back of
the net.
The game continued into two
10-minute overtimes, but neither team was able to find the
go-ahead, golden goal to claim the win.
Montevallo recorded two more
shots than USC Aiken at 19-17 while the Pacers' two net minders
combined to record 10 saves to Montevallo's goalkeeper's
four.
USC Aiken will now look to
host the Bearcats of in state and PBC rival Lander on Wednesday,
Oct. 13. The PBC tilt on the pitch is slated to begin at 5
p.m.
