Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The
University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team recorded their
first positive match in Peach Belt Conference action Wednesday
night as they drew a tie at 1-1 with the Braves of visiting UNC
Pembroke at "Pacer Pit."
The Pacers are now 1-6-2
overall and 0-2-1 in PBC action while the Braves find themselves
2-6-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference.
UNC Pembroke took a 1-0 lead
into halftime after Brett Luccia sent a penalty kick past USC
Aiken's net-minder in the 36th minute.
The Pacers' goalkeeper Robert
Bolender (Kennesaw, Ga./Reinhardt) was able to exact his
revenge in the second half as he was called out from between the
pipes by USC Aiken head coach Ike Ofoje in the 80th minute to kick
a penalty kick of his own. On the giving end this time, Bolender
cracked the ball just a bit high and out of reach of the Braves'
keeper, where a lucky glance off the cross beam sent the ball into
the back of the net drawing the score even at one all.
The match went through 110
total minutes with neither team able to find the go-ahead goal in
two overtime periods.
The teams were even in shots
at 14 all while UNC Pembroke had two more corner kick attempts than
the Pacers at 6-4.
USC Aiken's men will next play
Saturday, Oct. 9 in an 8 p.m. PBC contest on the pitch when they
will host the No. 2 Falcons of Montevallo at "Pacer
Pit."
