2010 PBC All-Academic Women's Cross Country Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken cross country runners Nicole Maitland and Mathilde Grenet were both selected to the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Women's Cross Country All-Academic team on Friday, Oct. 29.
Maitland and Grenet are now both three-time winners of the all-academic award from the league office.
Maitland (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) is in her final season with the USC Aiken cross country team. A senior three-time All-Peach Belt Conference runner, Maitland has collected the second-best time for the Pacers in four of their five meets this season.
She has two top eight finishes, ending her efforts in eighth place in the Division II portion of the 2010 Gamecock Invitational and then finishing in eighth place individually at the 2010 Bridgestone-Pacer Inviational on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Pacer Path.
Maitland owns the second-best time in school history, which she obtained by claiming the individual title with a time of 19:47 at the 2008 Blue Hose Invitational.
Grenet (Doumont, France/Lycee George Sand) is in her first season with the USC Aiken cross country team. A four-year member of the USC Aiken women's tennis team, Grenet was a two-time PBC All-Academic selection in women's tennis.
Grenet has captured two top 14 finishes this season as a cross country runner, including a 14th place finish at the Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational.
The PBC Women's Cross Country All-Academic team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 29 NCAA Division II National Championships. 13 member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama compete in 13 championship sports. 2010-11 members are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College, Georgia Southwestern, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North Georgia, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
