Lukralle Sets New Record While Pacers See Streak End

Box Score

AIKEN, S.C. – Samantha Lukralle set her second record of the 2010 season, shattering her own record for most digs in a season with a stellar performance leading the Pacers' back row in the University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team's 3-1 loss to Peach Belt Conference No. 1 Flagler Friday night at the Convocation Center.

USC Aiken raced out with an early lead, claiming the first set 25-19 before the Saints were able to gather themselves together. Flagler went on to claim the second set 25-16, but the Pacers fought hard dropping a pair of close sets 25-22.

With their season-high seven-match winning streak ended, the Pacers now find themselves 14-12 overall and 6-5 in league action while the regionally-second-ranked Flagler Saints earn their 20th win of the season to reach 20-7 overall and 9-1 in the conference.

Sophomore Lindsay Mortenson (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) recorded 10 terminations in the match to lead the Pacers with the hard-hitting duo of Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault) and Leah Rodgers (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) added eight kills each.

Sophomore setter Alex Petock (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) picked up her third double-double of the season as she matched a team-high 17 assists along with 16 digs. Lukralle (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) corralled in a match-high 25 digs to shatter her previous school record of 523 digs in a single season with three matches left in the season.

Dianna Craine led all attackers in the match with 15 kills to lead the Saints who saw four players tally double-digit terminations. Three-time PBC Player of the Week Meg Weathersby continued to impress with a double-double knocking down 14 kills and recording a team-high 18 digs.

In such a close match, the Pacers were tallied seven service aces and were able to hold their own by holding the Saints to a hitting percentage of .163.

USC Aiken will now welcome the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic State along with former USC Aiken head skipper Will Condon on Saturday, Oct. 30 for a 2 p.m. afternoon conference match. The match against the Pirates will serve as the Pacers' senior night where USC Aiken will recognize senior Megan Disney (Knoxville, Tenn./Karns) for her contributions to the volleyball program over the past four years.
