Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – Katie Rumble and Aubrey Danielson both
recorded a hat trick and Danielson added a pair of assists to lift
the University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team
over the Cobras of visiting Coker College 8-1 Monday night at the
"Pacer Pit" in non-conference action.
With the win, USC Aiken improves to 5-11-1 overall for the 2010
campaign while Coker is now 1-13-2 overall on the season.
The Pacers raced out of the gate with an impressive three goals
in the first 10 minutes of the game. Rumble (Aiken, S.C./South
Aiken) and Danielson (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) wasted no time as
they joined forces to put the ball in the back of the net in just
the second minute as Rumble sent a rocket into the lower let corner
of the goal off the assist from Danielson.
Danielson picked up her second assist of the game just one
minute later when she sent a cross to the waiting boot of Brittany
Moores (Blythewood, S.C./Blythewood) who deftly put the ball into
the back of the net to put the Pacers up 2-0.
In the ninth minute it was Danielson's turn to find pay
dirt with her first goal of the evening. Jenny Pineiro (Charleston,
S.C./Fort Dorchester) took control of the ball off an inbounds play
and served up the ball into the box to the waiting boot of
Danielson who then volleyed the ball from the six-yard line and
into the back of the net for her third score of the season.
Danielson's second goal came in the 25th minute off
another assist by Moores. Moores passed the ball to the top of the
box, leaving Danielson one-on-one with the goalkeeper before she
sent a rocket over the head of Coker's netminder giving USC
Aiken a 4-0 lead heading into the half.
The Pacers opened up the second half of regulation in similar
fashion to the first as Rumble recorded her second goal of the
match in the 52nd minute off an assist by Kyle Maguire (Irmo,
S.C./Dutchfork) who sent a long shot from the far end of the field
perfectly over Rumble's head. Despite heavy pressure from
several Cobras, Rumble fluidly moved into the box and sent a rocket
past the goalkeeper into the back of the net.
Just two minutes later it was Pineiro's turn to reach the
back of the net off an assist by Casey Lloyd (Lexington, S.C./White
Knoll). In a play similar to her assist in the first half, Pineiro
deflected the ball past the outstretched arms of the Coker
goalkeeper after Lloyd served up the ball of an inbound play and
into the box to the waiting Pineiro.
In the 56th minute Rumble completed her hat trick and recorded
her sixth goal of the season. Coming off a hat trick of her own
last week, Alex Cohen (Evans, Ga./Greenbrier) earned the assist as
Rumble laced the ball into the lower left corner of the goal to put
the Pacers up 7-0.
Coker refused to accept the shutout and was able to find the
back of the net late in the second half when Jill Giguere scored an
unassisted goal into the lower right of the goal with just under 18
minutes left to play.
Danielson tallied the final goal of the match just four minutes
later to record her first career hat trick and her fifth goal of
the season. Fellow freshman Cohen earned the assist as Danielson
sent a rocket from approximately 23 yards out and into the lower
left corner of the goal to set the final score at 8-1.
USC Aiken owned a commanding lead over Coker in every aspect of
the game including out shooting the Cobras 26-13.
The Pacers will close out their 2010 regular and Peach Belt
Conference slate on Wednesday, Oct. 27 against the Bobcats of
Georgia College. The match at the "Pacer Pit" will
serve as senior day for USC Aiken and will begin at 7 p.m.
