Box Score 2 AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken
volleyball team gave up only 17 kills and recorded 11 team service
aces en route to downing the Senators of Davis & Elkins in
three-straight sets Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
The Pacers took the three-set match 25-15, 25-17 and capped their
session with a 25-16 final set.
USC Aiken improves to 12-11 with their season-high fifth
straight victory while Davis & Elkins falls to 9-16 for the
2010 campaign.
Freshman lefty Emily Maassen () led all attackers in the match
with nine kills while hitting an impressive .583. In total, eight
Pacers recorded multiple terminations with sophomore Shannon Byers
(Morristown, Minn./Faribault) close behind Maassen with seven kills
and three service aces which was good enough to tie fellow
sophomore Claire Patten (/Mercer) for most aces in the match.
The Senators' Lindsay Russo and Heather Zapf led Davis
& Elkins in terminations with four a piece.
USC Aiken controlled every aspect of the game out hitting the
Senators .260-.085 while recording 40 total team kills to Davis
& Elkins' 17.
USC Aiken will now look to close out the 2010 Pacer Volleyball
Invitational with a 4 p.m. region match against the Cobras of Coker
College on the main arena floor.
