AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South
Carolina Aiken women's soccer team saw its two-match winning streak
come to an end in a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference loss to Georgia
Southwestern on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field.
The Pacers held a commanding advantage in all
the statistical categories, but they were unable to muster a goal
in the narrow one-goal loss. The loss to the Hurricanes drops USC
Aiken to 4-11-1 on the 2010 season. The Pacers are now 0-8-1 in PBC
action on the year.
Georgia Southwestern acquired its first PBC
victory of the season in the win over the Pacers to improve to 1-8
in league action. The Hurricanes are now 3-12 overall.
The lone goal of the match came in the
49th-minute when Julia Wells scored off an assist from
Brittney Hill. The goal was the first of the year for Wells.
USC Aiken finished with eight more shots than
the Hurricanes in the match at 14-6. The Pacers owned a commanding
8-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Courtney Allison played all 90 minutes between
the pipes for Georgia Southwestern to collect the shutout win over
USC Aiken. She made four saves.
The Westphal sister tandem of Nicole and
Melissa split time in net for the Pacers in the match with each
playing a half. Nicole started the match with Melissa surrendering
the lone goal in the second stanza. The Springfield, Va. natives
combined for three saves.
USC Aiken will next welcome in-state foe Coker
to the "Pacer Pit" for a 7 p.m. match on Monday, Oct. 25. The match
