AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South
Carolina Aiken men's soccer team acquired an important 1-0 shutout
victory over Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia Southwestern in its
regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field.
The 1-0 victory over the Hurricanes on
Saturday afternoon gives the Pacers their first league win of the
year. It is their second positive league result as the Pacers had a
achieved a positive league result already in a tie with UNC
Pembroke.
USC Aiken ends its regular season with a 1-6-1
record in league action. The 1-6-1 mark in league play leaves the
Pacers clinging to the eighth and final spot in the 2010 PBC
Tournament. Georgia Southwestern is now 1-6 with one league game to
play against Flagler (Oct. 27). The Pacers will now have to wait
for the conclusion of the Flagler-Georgia Southwestern game to see
if they will be rewarded for their strong finish to the regular
season with a trip to the PBC Tournament.
The Pacers conclude the regular season with an
overall record of 2-10-2. Georgia Southwestern falls to 2-11 on the
year overall with the loss to the Pacers.
Michael Ardrey
(Augusta, Ga./Richmond Academy) was the hero for the Pacers on
Saturday afternoon, scoring the game-winner in the
19th-minute off an assist from Joseph Oller (North
Augusta, S.C./North Augusta). The goal was the first of Ardrey's
career.
The Pacers from there would be able to hold
Georgia Southwestern off for the rest of the match to record the
shutout win.
Robert Bolender
(Kennesaw, Ga./Reinhardt) logged all 90 minutes in net for the
Pacers in the contest to acquire his first shutout as a member of
the USC Aiken men's soccer team.
USC Aiken as a team finished the Georgia
Southwestern match with seven more shots than the Hurricanes at
14-7. The Pacers held a 5-3 advantage in corner kick
opportunities.
