Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. –
USC Aiken held the 12th-ranked team in the country
scoreless for 65 minutes, but Flagler would eventually emerge with
a 2-0 victory in Peach Belt Conference men's soccer action on
Saturday evening at Saints Field.
USC Aiken with the loss sees
its record drop to 1-6-1 on the 2010 season. USC Aiken is still
searching for win No. 1 in league action as the Pacers are now 0-2
in PBC action. Flagler with the 2-0 win over USC Aiken is now 7-2
overall. The Saints are presently 3-1 in PBC play.
The first half ended with
the score tied at 0-0. The Saints took 12 shots in the first half,
but USC Aiken netminder Robert Bolender (Kennesaw, Ga./Reinhardt)
was up to the challenge.
Flagler would procure the
first goal of the game at the 65:02 mark when Arnel Selman took
advantage of a loose ball in the box. Selman placed the ball into
the back of the net for his first goal of the year and a 1-0
Flagler lead.
The Saints would add one
more to the final tally the minute before the end of regulation.
The Saints Zach Shanahan collected the goal, which was his third of
the 2010 season.
Flagler finished with a 27-6
shot advantage in the match. They held a slim 6-5 advantage in
corner kicks.
Bolender finished his first
start in the Pacer net with seven saves. Flagler's Matt
Gilman had three saves between the pipes in his shutout victory
over USC Aiken.
USC Aiken returns home next
for a PBC contest against UNC Pembroke at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday,
