Box Score MORROW, Ga. – The USC Aiken women's soccer team
finished with 10 more shots than Clayton State, but the Lakers were
able to put in more of their opportunities in a 3-1 win over the
Pacers in Peach Belt Conference women's soccer action on
Saturday evening at Laker Field.
USC Aiken with the loss to the Lakers on Saturday drops to
2-10-1 on the 2010 season overall. The Pacers are now 0-7-1 in PBC
play. Clayton State moves to 4-8 (2-6 PBC) with the two-goal win
over the Pacers.
The Pacers concluded Saturday's loss having taken 19
shots. Clayton State took nine shots in the game, but were able to
convert one-third of their shot attempts. The Lakers held a slight
4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Natalia Valentine collected two of Clayton State's three
goals in the match, capturing the Lakers first and third tallies.
She was assisted by Cherie Sayon on both goals.
Sayon netted one of her own in the 26th-minute off an
assist from Sandra Tapia.
Alex Cohen (Evans, Ga./Greenbrier) scored USC Aiken's lone
goal in the match on a free kick from 35 yards out at the 22:32
mark. Cohen's goal evened the game at 1-1, but just three
minutes later, Sayon's goal earned Clayton State a 2-1 lead
that they would hold until intermission.
Valentine would score the final goal of the match at the 55:21
mark of the second half.
The Pacers have little time to rest as they will next welcome
Anderson to the "Pacer Pit" for a 6 p.m. match on
