Pacers Come Up Short in PBC Loss to 10th-Ranked Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. – For the third straight Saturday, the USC Aiken men's soccer took to the pitch against a nationally-ranked squad and for the third consecutive Saturday a spirited Pacer squad fell just short as they dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 10 Clayton State in Peach Belt Conference men's soccer action on Saturday evening at Laker Field.

The loss to the nationally-ranked Lakers leaves the Pacers at 1-9-2 on the 2010 season. The Pacers are now 0-5-1 in PBC action. The 10th-ranked Lakers improve to 11-2 (5-1 PBC).

Clayton State netted the lone tally of the match in the 67th-minute off the boot of Arturo Cruz, who put in a Leighton Fredericks pass for the eventual game-winning goal. The goal was the fourth of the season for Cruz.

The Lakers held a 17-3 shot advantage over the Pacers in the match. Clayton State owned an 8-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Andray Charles (Grenada, W.I./TA Maryshow CC) and Robert Bolender (Kennesaw, Ga./Reinhardt) split time in net in the loss to the 10th-ranked Lakers with Bolender surrendering the lone goal in the second half. Both Charles and Bolender made two saves in the game.

Clayton State's Brian Garcia played all 90 minutes in picking up the shutout between the pipes for the Lakers.

The Pacers will next welcome Francis Marion to the "Pacer Pit" for a 7:30 p.m. match on Wednesday, Oct. 20. The match can be followed live on USC Aiken's official athletic website at www.PacerSports.com.
