AIKEN, S.C. - The 2010 University of South Carolina Aiken
baseball team had a chance to show off its vast talents to a record
number of scouts on USC Aiken Baseball's Annual Major League
Baseball Scout Day on Tuesday at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Pacer Scout Day featured the USC Aiken baseball players
going through a variety of situations with every player getting a
chance to show the record 17 scouts in attendance on Tuesday what
they could do whether it be on the mound, hitting or fielding. The
Pacer Scout Day was also the official beginning of the 2009 fall
season.
The presence of a record number of scouts at the 2009 USC Aiken
Major League Baseball Scout Day and on the first official day of
the start of the fall season was not lost on USC Aiken head
baseball coach Kenny Thomas, who articulated how much how days like
Tuesday meant to his program.
"First off, it (scout day) puts the guys under a little pressure
during the fall season because there are 17 pro scouts watching
them perform," noted Thomas. "It makes them have to step up and
perform during this fall season and it lets us showcase our players
a little and develop a relationship with the pro scouts and Major
League Baseball teams.
"Obviously, I am real pleased with this year's turnout (of
scouts) ... 17 is the most we have ever had," remarked Thomas. "It
is tough in the fall for some of the scouts because they are
limited to how much they can travel and others have a lot of area
to cover, so we are very honored that they were able to take time
out of their busy schedules to come see us. Normally we have
11 or 12 every year, so 17 is really great. Not too many teams can
say they had this many scouts at their scouting day."
The defending Peach Belt Conference champion Pacers also played
the first of their unique Cardinal/Navy fall scrimmages for the
scouts in attendance.
USC Aiken's Cardinal/Navy series continues this weekend with
Parents' Weekend at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The first game of
the weekend will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 with the Pacers
concluding their intra-squad games for the weekend with an 11 a.m.
contest on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The two-game set this weekend is part of 13 throughout the rest
of the fall for the Pacers. For more information, please visit USC
