AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer
player Troy Watson was selected as the USC Aiken Athletic
Department Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday, Sept. 21.
Watson (Kingston, Jamaica/Montreat) finished last week with
three goals and one assist to conclude his impressive week with
seven points. Watson is currently tied with teammate Fernando
Gamez-Noriega (Sinaloa, Mexico/Colleton County) for the team lead
in total points with 11 on the year. Watson has three goals and a
team-leading five assists in 2009.
Last week, Watson opened his week by tallying his first goal of
the season in USC Aiken's domination of Catawba at the "Pacer Pit"
on Monday, Sept. 14. He also tallied an assist in the match.
Watson followed up his three points in the win over the Indians
by recording a goal in USC Aiken's narrow 2-1 loss to
regionally-ranked Limestone in Gaffney, S.C. on Wednesday, Sept.
16.
In the Pacers' final match of the week against Mars Hill on
Saturday, Sept. 19, Watson scored at the final buzzer of the first
overtime to send the Pacers to victory at Meares Stadium.
Watson scored the game-winner on a rifling shot from about 35
yards out that sailed past Mars Hill goalkeeper Justin Spencer.
The match-winner by Watson improved the Pacers to .500 at 3-3 on
the year. USC Aiken is 3-1 in its last four outings.
The USC Aiken Student Athlete of the Week award is a newly
created award. Each week the USC Aiken athletic department is going
to honor one individual from an in-season sport for their hard work
and effort.
