AIKEN, S.C. - Despite mounting a furious late rally that included an Alie Brady goal in the 84^th-minute, the University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Mars Hill on Saturday evening at the "Pacer Pit."

Down 2-0 to the Lions, Brady (Summerville, S.C./Summerville) scored from over 40 yards out to pull the Pacers within one at 2-1. Brady's goal came on a free kick for the Pacers in which Brady just sent the ball into the box in hopes that a Pacer would get a head on the ball and send it towards goal. Brady obtained more than she ever imagined when the ball touched down in the 18-yard box and then bounced over everyone, including Mars Hill goalkeeper Chelsea Parker, into the back of the net.

The goal was Brady's second of the year.

The Pacers would keep fighting for the equalizer, but would not be able to manage with Mars Hill (1-7) holding on for its first win of the 2009 campaign. USC Aiken is now 2-4 on the 2009 season with the home loss to Mars Hill on Saturday.

All three goals in the match were not your typical goals with Mars Hill's first goal coming on a cross from the right from Amy Brock that sailed past Pacer netminder Nicole Westphal (Springfield, Va./Paul VI Catholic) and the rest of the Pacer defense into the left side of the net. The goal was Brock's second of 2009.

Mars Hill's Caity Murnahan scored her first of the year and the eventual game-winner at the 66:36 mark on a penalty kick.

USC Aiken took five more shots than Mars Hill in the contest, taking 18 shots compared to Mars Hill's 13. The Pacers held a slight 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Pacers now have a week off before traveling to Columbus, Ga. to try and pick up their first Peach Belt Conference win of the 2009 season against league rival and current sixth-ranked Columbus State on Saturday, Sept. 26. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
