AUGUSTA, Ga. – USC Aiken men's tennis had three
student-athletes chosen to the 2009 Peach Belt Conference
All-Academic Men's Tennis Team it was announced by the league
office on Thursday.
Chris Kaetz (Bonn, Germany) and Bruno Seves (Araraquara, Brazil)
were tabbed to the first team, while Filipe Garcia (Valinhos,
Brazil) was a second team choice.
Playing mostly at No. 4 singles, Kaetz is currently 13-5 for the
Pacers in the 2009 spring campaign. Kaetz is 12-2 at No. 4 singles.
Kaetz teamed with Gregory Andrade at No. 3 doubles to record a
17-4 record thus far in 2009. The tandem is presently 14-3 at No. 3
doubles and 3-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Kaetz graduated from USC Aiken today with a 3.82 Grade Point
Average in Business Administration.
The USC Aiken athletic department Male Scholar-Athlete of the
Year, Seves has compiled a 16-4 record in singles currently. All of
Seves' matches were at No. 1 singles.
A 2009 All-PBC first team selection, Seves finished the 2009 PBC
campaign at 6-2 in league action.
The Feb. 24 PBC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, Seves is
presently ranked sixth in singles nationally and 22nd in the nation
in doubles.
A Business Administration major, Seves graduated from USC Aiken on
Thursday with a 3.68 GPA.
A sophomore, Garcia currently owns a 15-5 combined record in
singles. Garcia has played at a multitude of positions for the
Pacers in 2009, recording a 5-2 record at No. 6 singles and a 6-3
record at No. 5 singles. Garcia was 1-0 at No. 2 singles and 3-0 at
No. 4 singles.
Seves' doubles partner, Garcia has combined with Seves to
own a 17-3 record in doubles. The duo is 15-2 at No. 2 doubles and
2-1 at No. 1 doubles.
A sophomore, Garcia has a 3.46 GPA as a Business Administration
major.
The fifth-ranked Pacers open the 2009 NCAA Division II Men's
Tennis Southeast Regional against No. 25 Francis Marion at the AASU
Tennis Complex on Friday, May 8.
The Pacers had to wait to Thursday to learn of their foe in the
event. The Patriots (16-5) bested South Atlantic Conference
champion Mars Hill 5-1 on Thursday to move on to face the Pacers in
the semifinals of the region.
The Pacers and Patriots will tangle at 2 p.m. in the second round
of the NCAA Tournament for the right to move on to Saturday's
region championship game. The men's region championship game
will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
USC Aiken has played fellow Peach Belt Conference institution
Francis Marion twice in 2009; first downing the Patriots, 7-2,
during the regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 24. They just recently
picked up a 5-2 win over Francis Marion in the quarterfinals of the
PBC Tournament.
The Pacers enter the NCAA Tournament game against Francis Marion
with an 18-4 record on the year. USC Aiken finished 5-3 during the
regular season in the Peach Belt Conference.

The PBC All-Academic Men's Tennis Team is part of a new
season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of
PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must
1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and
be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20
cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at
least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and
select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 26 NCAA
Division II National Championships. The league currently features
11 member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina and
Georgia that compete in 12 championship sports. The 2008-09 members
are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University,
Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Francis Marion
University, Georgia College & State University, Georgia
Southwestern State University, Lander University, North Georgia
College & State University, University of North Carolina at
Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
