AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken women's
basketball player Catherine Cain was selected as the USC Aiken
Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on December 7,
2009.
Cain (Dayton, Ohio/Ohio University) concluded USC Aiken's three
games last week averaging 17.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Cain punctuated her strong week by scoring a game-high and
career-high 25 points in USC Aiken's narrow loss to NCAA Division I
Winthrop. She was 9-for-14, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc,
en route to the 25 points. She also had four rebounds and five
assists in the contest.
Cain opened last week by scoring 18 points in USC Aiken's
home-opening win over Wingate on Monday, Nov. 30. Cain was 5-for-9
from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the
contest.
In the Pacers' loss to 18th-ranked Francis Marion in
the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams, Cain ended her
evening with 10 points.
The USC Aiken Student Athlete of the Week award is a newly
created award for the 2009-10 athletic year. Each week the USC
Aiken athletic department is going to honor one individual from an
in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
