Pacers Outlasted In Non-Conference Showdown With GCSU

Box Score AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup against Peach Belt Conference opponent Georgia College & State University, 72-59, on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Convocation Center.

The Pacers lost their momentum late in a game that was back and forth for much of the afternoon. The game was tied nine times and featured nine lead changes.

USC Aiken found themselves down by 10 points in the first half with 6:45 left to play, but the Pacers came storming back to take a 33-31 lead at halftime. Mike Brandt's defensive adjustments, as well as some tremendous rebounding helped the Pacers retake the lead on their home floor after the opening twenty minutes. The Pacers connected on 12-of-25 attempts from the floor and outrebounded the Bobcats 18 - 10.

The Pacers struggled from the floor however in the second half, hitting just 5-of-25 shots from the floor. GCSU countered by connecting on 14 of 27 shots and used a three-pointer from Shaquana Bleach at the 14:23 mark to take a 43-40 lead.

The Bobcats would lead the rest of the way en route to the 13-point win.

USC Aiken was led in scoring by Hannah DeGraffinreed's (Raleigh, N.C. / Merrimack College) 13 points.

John Carrick and the Bobcats were led by Chimere Jordan who finished with 19 points on the strength of five three-pointers.

The Pacers will continue their four game homestand next week on Dec. 17 in a rematch against Lenoir-Rhyne at 6 p.m. Lenoir-Rhyne escaped with a 59-57 victory at home over the Pacers on Nov. 24 with a three-point basket at the buzzer.

The L-R game is the first game of a men's and women's basketball twinbill on Dec. 17. The USC Aiken athletic department will be holding a special Toys for Tots drive for the men's and women's basketball doubleheader.

The special promotion was done through a cooperative effort with the USC Aiken women's basketball program and it is sponsored by the United States Marine Corps League in Aiken.

Leading up to the doubleheader, the USC Aiken women's basketball program will be placing special boxes around the Convocation Center where you can leave toys of any kind for the less fortunate.

The doubleheader begins on Dec. 17 with the USC Aiken women's basketball team hosting nationally-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne at 6 p.m. Prior to the game, the Aiken Marine Corps League will present the colors. They will also present the colors for the men's game, which immediately follows the women's game against Lenoir-Rhyne. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. The Pacer men will be squaring off against Allen.
