AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken men's
basketball player Re'mon Nelson was selected as the USC Aiken
Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday, November
9.
A freshman guard from Canal Winchester, Ohio, Nelson scored 37
points, dished out 14 assists and brought down 16 rebounds in USC
Aiken's two exhibition games last week.
In many ways Nelson stole the show in USC Aiken's exhibition
victory last Thursday over Southern Wesleyan. Nelson thrilled those
in attendance at the Convocation Center by trying to post a
triple-double in his first outing as a Pacer.
Nelson guided the Pacer offensive attack in the resounding win
with nine assists. The 5-foot-9 Nelson also corralled seven
rebounds in addition to his nine dimes. He finished his evening
with 14 total points as he was 5-for-13 from the field.
Nelson continued his efforts to try and pick up a triple-double
in the narrow overtime loss to College of Charleston by finishing
the contest against the Cougars with 23 points, nine rebounds and
five assists. He also had three steals.
Nelson had given the Pacers a chance for victory in overtime by
hitting a three-pointer from NBA range with six seconds left in
regulation. USC Aiken down 85-82, SoCon preseason Player of the
Year Andrew Goudelock gave life to the Pacers when he mishandled a
pass on the Cougar baseline.
Goudelock's costly turnover came with 21 seconds left in
regulation. Nelson and the Pacers took advantage with the freshman
point guard hitting a 27-foot three-pointer with six seconds left
to send the game into an extra frame.
